Structured Transitional Living for Young Adults 18-24

WHO WE ARE

Straight Arrow Horizons is a registered nonprofit housing and readiness initiative dedicated to the success of New Jersey’s young adults. We serve as a trauma-informed bridge for youth ages 18–24 who are navigating the high-stakes transition from institutional systems—such as foster care—to independent adulthood.

We provide structured transitional housing for young adults who are financially supported, Medicaid-connected, or receiving benefits, but still need guidance and accountability while transitioning toward independence.

We believe that housing is a human right and the essential foundation for any person’s growth. However, a bed is only the beginning. Our organization was founded to provide a comprehensive continuum of care that combines stable, shared living environments with the critical tools needed for long-term self-sufficiency.

As a mission-driven organization, we focus on three core pillars:

  • Safe & Dignified Housing: Providing fully furnished, stable environments that foster peace of mind and personal safety.

  • Workforce Credentialing: Helping our participants obtain the specific certifications, identification, and professional documents required to enter the workforce with a competitive edge.

  • Financial & Life Mentorship: Guiding young adults through the complexities of credit repair, budgeting, and the path to future homeownership.

At Straight Arrow Horizons, we don't just provide a temporary stay; we invest in permanent futures. By combining weekly accountability with personalized growth plans, we ensure our participants move from a state of survival to a position of leadership in their own lives. We are proud to be a strategic partner in the fight against youth homelessness and a catalyst for the next generation of New Jersey’s workforce.

MISSION

The mission of Straight Arrow Horizons is to serve as a trauma-informed bridge for young adults ages 18–24 who are navigating the critical transition from institutional systems to independent adulthood. By integrating stable housing, workforce credentialing, and consistent mentorship, we empower those aging out of foster care or facing housing instability to secure their future. We are dedicated to providing more than just a residence; we provide a high-accountability environment where young people can obtain the certifications and life skills necessary to achieve permanent self-sufficiency.

VISION

Our vision is to redefine the continuum of care in New Jersey by eliminating the gap between youth systems and adult success. We envision a future where every young adult has access to a stable foundation that fosters growth rather than just survival. By building a network of readiness-focused housing and strategic industry partnerships, Straight Arrow Horizons aims to become the gold standard for workforce placement and long-term residential stability, ensuring that our participants move forward with the dignity, credentials, and resilience needed to thrive.

BACKGROUND CHECKS & STAFF SCREENING

All staff undergo criminal background checks and identity verification prior to working with residents. Staff members sign confidentiality agreements and are required to comply with all child welfare and vulnerable adult protection policies.

In the United States, an estimated 3.5 million young people between ages 18 and 25 experience homelessness each year, part of a total of about 4.2 million youth and young adults ages 13–25 who experience some form of homelessness annually.

About 20 percent of young adults who age out of foster care become homeless immediately upon reaching age 18, and approximately 40 percent of young adults exiting foster care face housing insecurity within the first two years after leaving care.

Every recent Point-In-Time count shows that homelessness is getting worse year after year, especially since the pandemic.

Here is the trend in plain language you can use on your website:

In 2020, about 580,000 people were experiencing homelessness on a single night in the United States.

By 2023, that number had risen to more than 650,000 people.

In 2024, homelessness reached a record high of approximately 771,000 people on a single January night.

That means in just four years, the homelessness crisis grew by nearly 200,000 additional people.

This is why organizations like Straight Arrow Horizons are not optional anymore — they are essential infrastructure in a system that is breaking under rising housing costs, limited affordable housing, and the collapse of safety nets for young adults aging out of foster care.

At Straight Arrow Horizons, we believe no young adult should navigate the transition from foster care alone. We collaborate closely with child welfare professionals and community organizations to ensure every youth has a dignified place to call home. We provide more than just a placement; we provide a supportive foundation where young people can stabilize, gain their credentials, and prepare for independence. Let us be the next step in your client's journey toward success.
